AGO Automotive Gas Oil

Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) is  fuel primarily meant for use in several road vehicles. These include vehicles such as cars, buses, trucks and vans that are powered by diesel engines. This type of fuel is obtained in the mid-boiling range from the distillation and processing of crude oil.

There are other types of fuel that are related to this type of fuel. They are refereed to as Industrial Gas Oils (IGOs). IGOs are used for non-road applications including off-road diesel engines.

People outside the oil and gas industry are not really familiar with this technical name – Automotive Gas Oil – as they often refer to it as automotive diesel fuel or diesel. Consumers are more familiar with these two names than the technical name.

As mentioned earlier, AGO use is not limited to heavy-duty  vehicles such as such as trucks and buses but also, light-duty vehicle such as cars and vans.

Having said that, I would like to point out that Automotive Gas Oil is mostly used by heavy duty vehicles. It’s usage in heavy duty vehicles cuts across continents.  There are reports that demand for AGO to power light duty vehicles in Europe is high.
