Hope is beginning to rise as Nigeria’s crude oil production is now steadily trending upward thanks to the meaningful dialogue currently going on between the federal government and the stakeholders in the Niger Delta region, Thisday reports.
According to the report, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, reiterated that through a series of dialogue and properly worked out resolution of the development challenges of the Niger Delta, Nigeria could maintain a steady growth in her oil and gas production.
The Nigerian government is beginning to show enough commitment to peaceful resolution of the many problems in the region thereby reducing reducing disruption of crude oil production by militants who preferred to be addressed as freedom fighters.
In a meeting said to be a continuation of last year’s dialogue with stakeholders in the area, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu and some other government officials engaged the freedom fighters in meaningful dialogues that was aimed at persuading them to stop attacking government installations. He emphasized that Nigeria has the capacity to produce three million barrels of crude oil per day but for the many crises in the region.
He stressed the need for continued meaningful dialogue among stakeholders which according to him is essential to the development of the area. Also, he stated that government is targeting zero militancy and incidence reduction in the region within a short period of time.
According to data compiled by Bloomberg, Nigeria’s oil output which was drastically reduced by militant attacks last year, recovered to an average of 1.64 million barrels per day last month from 1.5 million bpd in December.
