NNPC To Begin Oil Exploration Along Gongola Basin – Baru

Nigeria is making another giant stride in its quest for more crude oil production. To this end, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) on Friday said that oil exploration along Gongola Basin will soon be a reality. This disclosure according to The Nation was made by the Group Managing Director of the Company, Dr Maikanti Baru .

The good news came from Baru in Bauchi while delivering an Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) pre-convocation lecture titled “Enhancing University-Industry Collaboration to support Nigerian Content Policy, Industrialization and Economic Growth”.

In his words, “Soon, we shall start drilling exploratory wells in the Gongola Basin commencing with appraisal of the Kolmani River-1 discovery Field. This is one of the significant achievements of this administration within the last three years, especially on oil exploration activities”.

He however explained that the exploration would be conducted in collaboration with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and one other university. The two universities are charged with the responsibility of providing technical support in the area of environmental impact assessment.
